Director of Operations, London - £55k to £75k plus share options in this fast growing technology startup

Our client is an internet start-up working in the online shopping delivery arena and is one of UK''s fastest growing start-ups with massive ambitions. 

Your role is to ensure quality services through management and/or coordination of planning/scheduling, procurement, logistics and master data functions required for successful execution of time-definite operations with sub-contracted partners.  You will be the key interface between customers, 3rd party carriers and retail clients.  It will be your responsibility to balance demand requirements with sub-contractors capacity and contract requirements.

You will use influencing skills to build and maintain partnerships with stakeholders to reach optimum customer service and drive efforts to meet or exceed SLA performance targets.  This position leads projects across the operations process in support of the business and the focus is on an integrated supply chain.  You will participate in cross functional projects and lead Business Process Management (BPM) to support optimisation and continuous improvement of end-to-end supply chain processes.  You will be responsible for building, leading and developing a team to support operations function and will initially be the first member of that team.  It is likely you will have the opportunity to expand your role internationally.

Responsibilities:

  • Determine best practices to ensure consistent quality customer service
  • Determine, monitor and drive performance metrics to ensure service processes and procedures support business objectives
  • Analyse performance trends, identify areas of improvement and raise performance expectations where appropriate
  • Conduct audits to ensure district results are aligned with operational targets
  • Design Quality Improvement Process training for 3rd parties to ensure training activities support business objectives including conducting train-the-trainer sessions and ensure consistent delivery of training materials
  • Create and update Courier Production Schedule, balancing demand and supply
  • Create operational forecasts and contingency plans to ensure service performance levels will be met in all conditions
  • Monitor volume and capacity in order to identify and resolve any variances and coordinate required changes with courier sub-contractors
  • Follow up to identify problems and actions required to prevent reoccurrence
  • Monitor daily transactions to ensure successful and on-time delivery
  • Identify, propose and manage improvement projects to address process deficiencies or improvement opportunities
  • Serve on multi-disciplinary and/or cross-functional project teams to represent Operations business requirements

Ideal candidate:
This role could suit either operations excellence manager at multinational logistics provider (UPS, FedEx, TNT etc) who is ready to step up to prove themselves as a bigger cog in a smaller business, or seasoned operations director looking for new challenge.  You must have:

  • Solid commercial experience in Logistics / Materials Management (ideally in express delivery industry)
  • Degree in industrial engineering, operational research, business or equivalent required.  MBA a plus.
  • Third-party management experience required
  • Project Management experience
  • Strong analytical skills required
